According to Lebanese media reports on Tuesday, Israel has lodged a complaint against Lebanon to the United Nations Security Council via its Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan.

As reported by the “Voice of All Lebanon” radio station, Israel filed the complaint against Lebanon to the UN Security Council on 27th July, focusing on tensions along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.

The complaint refers to a significant escalation in border tensions, citing increased aggression from Hezbollah and gross violations of UN Security Council resolutions as well as dangerous military developments. The complaint warned of disastrous and far-reaching consequences if the Security Council failed to condemn Hezbollah’s destabilising activities, call on Lebanon to act against the unlawful military build-ups within its territories, or at the very least, enable UNIFIL to fully execute its mandate. The situation on the ground would continue to deteriorate, the complaint suggested.

Israel held the Lebanese government responsible for any attack launched from Lebanese territories in its complaint, warning that it would not tolerate any infringement upon its sovereignty and security and would take necessary actions to protect its citizens and land.

The complaint accused Hezbollah of encroaching on Israeli sovereign territories a few weeks ago and establishing military facilities there. It also alleged that Hezbollah organised a large-scale military manoeuvre, which involved live fire, and attempted to damage the security fence and sabotage surveillance devices on it on July 12.
According to the Israeli message, Israel accused a group of 18 individuals, including Lebanese MP Qasim Hashem, of crossing the Blue Line and violating Resolution 1701 on July 15. It also blamed Hamas for launching rockets from Lebanon towards Palestine on April 6.

Israel has been protesting the establishment of a tent by Hezbollah on the border since last June and has requested its removal, while Lebanon insists that the tent is within Lebanese territory. Lebanon demands that Israel withdraw from the Lebanese part of Al Ghajar village, which it currently controls.
