On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that his country will allocate about $90 million in additional funds to African countries for debt relief.

During his participation in the plenary session of the second day of the Russia-Africa Summit, attended by African leaders, Putin stated that Russia is also involved in efforts to alleviate the burden of African countries debts.

“So far, the total debt that we have written off amounts to $23 billion. In response to the latest requests from African countries, we will allocate more than $90 million for these developmental purposes,” he said.

The “Russia-Africa 2023” summit commenced yesterday, July 27th, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and will last for two days.

The summit’s main objectives include strengthening global dialogue between African countries and Moscow, despite ongoing international developments.
