A severe storm hit Aden International Airport in Yemen early Monday morning, leading to traveler injuries and significant damage to an airplane wing.

The powerful winds shattered a large portion of the airport’s glass facade.

Parts of the airport’s insulating roof also suffered damage, with most of it being blown away into the airport’s surrounding areas. The wind-propelled debris caused minor damage to nearby vehicles.

Among the casualties of this wind storm were some travelers, including at least four children, who were injured due to the shattering of the airport’s glass facade.

Furthermore, due to the severe weather conditions and resultant damages, two scheduled flights from the capital, Aden, to Jeddah and Cairo airports, were postponed.

The severe weather event in Aden illustrates the ongoing challenges faced by Yemen, which has been grappling with infrastructure and safety issues against a backdrop of the longstanding humanitarian crisis.
