European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Sunday that the agreement reached between the European Union and Tunisia could serve as a model for other countries. This comes at a time when the EU is striving to halt unauthorized migration flows across the Mediterranean Sea.

Last week, the European Union and Tunisia signed a “strategic partnership” agreement aimed at tightening the noose on human traffickers and enhancing border control. In addition, Europe pledged to provide financial aid worth 1 billion euros (approximately 1.1 billion dollars) to support the struggling Tunisian economy and bolster the nation’s finances.

Speaking at a conference in Rome, Ursula von der Leyen expressed the aspiration for their agreement with Tunisia to become a precedent for the future and pave the way for forming partnerships with other countries in the region. This move signifies the EU’s commitment to addressing irregular migration and fostering meaningful cooperation with neighboring nations.
