The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed its support for the new Global Peace Agenda, showing keen interest in studying its many recommendations, and valuing the strong and innovative policy briefs put forward to inform the upcoming Future Summit.

This sentiment was expressed in a statement made during the United Nations Secretary-General’s briefing on the policy summaries of the common agenda for the Future Summit, delivered by Sara Al Owadi, Second Secretary. The statement was published on the official website of the UAE’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations yesterday.

Al Owadi highlighted two critical issues from the briefing. Firstly, she emphasized the importance of developing preventive capacities worldwide. She stated, “In a world increasingly affected by geopolitical tensions and global challenges – from climate change to nuclear proliferation – investing in prevention and resilience should be every member state’s responsibility.” She further added, “This could lay a firmer foundation for peace, prosperity, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Al Owadi continued, “A crucial element in transforming this prevention model is addressing the very threats that undermine the social fabric of our societies, such as hate speech, discrimination, and extremism, which feed into the outbreak, escalation, and repetition of conflict.”
She further stressed that, “Promoting values that highlight our shared humanity, such as tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and human brotherhood, is of paramount importance; to consolidate sustainable, resilient, and inclusive societies.”
