On Thursday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reiterated his call for de-escalation in the ongoing regional conflicts, warning that a full-scale war could have severe consequences for the security of all countries in the region.

El-Sisi made these remarks during a meeting in Cairo with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, accompanied by Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. The Egyptian president emphasized the importance of intensifying international efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, halt violations in the West Bank, and provide urgent humanitarian aid to ease civilian suffering.

Araghchi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing role in promoting stability, conveying greetings from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and commending Cairo’s efforts across all fronts. Both leaders agreed on the importance of exploring opportunities to strengthen relations between Egypt and Iran.

Araghchi’s visit comes as Israel continues airstrikes on Gaza and Lebanon, with tensions further escalating after Israel threatened Iran in response to a missile barrage earlier in October. This marks the first visit by a high-ranking Iranian official to Cairo in over a decade, signaling a potential thaw in relations between the two countries.

Egyptian-Iranian relations have improved in recent years, especially after 2023 saw renewed diplomatic efforts and high-level meetings. Both nations are working to normalize ties after decades of tension. Araghchi’s visit to Egypt follows stops in Amman, and he is set to visit Turkey next as part of his regional tour to reduce tensions.
