Two Belgian journalists sustained injuries during an assignment in Beirut, Lebanon, as they covered the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, their employer, DPG Media, confirmed on Thursday.
VTM’s Robin Ramaekers and cameraman Stijn De Smet were hurt following overnight airstrikes, with Ramaekers facing facial injuries and De Smet receiving treatment for a leg wound.
Both journalists are currently hospitalized but in stable condition.
The Belgian foreign ministry is keeping a close watch on the situation, amidst escalating violence in the region.
The Israeli military has intensified bombings in Beirut, with reports of multiple casualties and significant displacements, highlighting the severe impact on both Lebanese civilians and foreign journalists.
Hezbollah announced the destruction of three Israeli Merkava tanks using guided missiles in the southern Lebanese town of Maroun al-Ras on Wednesday afternoon.
The militant group, which has been in an ongoing conflict with Israel, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, underscoring the intensifying military confrontations along the Lebanon-Israel border.
In separate statements issued earlier on Wednesday, Hezbollah reported repelling an Israeli force attempting to infiltrate the town of Al-Adaysseh, forcing it to retreat.
Additionally, the group said it targeted Israeli forces stationed at various military posts, including the Shumaira Barracks, Shatula, Misgav Am, south of Kiryat Shmona, as well as the Zar’it and Avivim barracks.
It also claimed strikes on settlements near Haifa, including Adamit and locations north of the city.
