Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov condemned today, Tuesday, the Israeli airstrike on the Syrian capital, Damascus, confirming that Russia is in constant contact with its Syrian friends. Peskov emphasized that Russia condemns the Israeli assault on Damascus, noting that Moscow is in continuous touch with its Syrian friends.

Speaking to reporters when asked to comment on the airstrike on Damascus and assess the risks facing Syria and its leadership, Peskov said, “We are, of course, in constant contact with our Syrian friends. We do not see immediate risks right now, but we, of course, condemn such attacks on a sovereign state.”

Earlier, Syrian state television, quoting a military source, reported that three people were killed and nine injured as a result of the “Israeli air aggression” on Damascus.

Syrian television also reported explosions in the capital, Damascus, and that Syrian air defenses were responding to “hostile targets” in the vicinity of the capital.

Recent developments in the Syrian-Israeli conflict show a heightened tension, with Syrian air defenses responding to Israeli strikes targeting military and strategic locations in Syria. These Israeli actions, including attacks on Syrian airports in Damascus and Aleppo, are portrayed as preventive measures against Iranian arms shipments to Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Syria has engaged in sporadic shelling and rocket fire into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, yet these actions have been limited in scale. The backdrop to these confrontations includes a broader regional conflict, with the Assad regime’s renewed political engagement following its re-admittance to the Arab League and ongoing dialogues in regional summits concerning Gaza and broader Middle Eastern stability.
