Countries across the globe, including key Arab nations, G7 members, and the European Union, are pushing for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah along Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday.
Speaking to MSNBC, Blinken emphasized that the “world is speaking clearly” in support of halting hostilities.
Despite these widespread international calls, including from the United States, Israel has rejected proposals for a ceasefire with Hezbollah.
Israeli strikes have continued to escalate, resulting in hundreds of deaths in Lebanon and raising fears of a full-scale regional conflict.
Blinken also mentioned that he would meet with Israeli officials in New York later on Thursday to discuss the situation.
However, Israel’s defiance of the ceasefire proposals underscores the challenges in de-escalating tensions along the volatile Israel-Lebanon border.
