Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a stern warning to Israel, condemning the ongoing airstrikes by the Israeli military on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. Iranian officials cautioned Israel against the “serious consequences” of what they called a “new adventure” in the region.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the “widespread air attacks” carried out by Israel, describing the strikes as “reckless” and warning of the dangerous repercussions. Kanaani also criticized the United States for its “unwavering support” for Israel and called on the United Nations Security Council to take “immediate action” to halt the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
According to a statement from Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, at least 182 people have been killed and 727 injured in southern Lebanon due to Israeli airstrikes. The casualties reportedly include women, children, and rescue workers.
In what is being called the largest wave of strikes yet, Israeli jets targeted hundreds of Hezbollah positions across southern Lebanon. Israel has called on Lebanese civilians to evacuate areas where it claims Hezbollah stores its weapons.
Israel’s focus has now shifted to its northern border as Hezbollah launches rockets in support of its ally, Hamas, which continues its conflict with Israel in Gaza.
In a video statement released by his office, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said, “We are intensifying our strikes in Lebanon, and operations will continue until we achieve our goal of returning northern Israeli residents to their homes safely. These are times when Israelis must remain calm.”
Gallant’s remarks came after the Israeli army targeted Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, and the northern region near the Syrian border.
