Lebanese Hezbollah announced early Sunday that it had targeted Ramat David Airbase for the second time with dozens of rockets. Hezbollah’s statement said, “For the second time within two hours, Ramat David Airbase and airport were targeted with dozens of Fadi 1 and Fadi 2 rockets in response to the repeated Israeli attacks that targeted various Lebanese areas, resulting in many civilian martyrs.”
It was not immediately clear whether any of the rockets hit their intended targets. Earlier on Sunday morning, Hezbollah had announced targeting Ramat David Airbase and airport with dozens of Fadi 1 and Fadi 2 rockets in retaliation for the repeated Israeli assaults on various Lebanese regions that led to many civilian casualties.
The Israeli Medical Emergency Services reported that a man sustained minor injuries from shrapnel from an intercepted rocket. This was the first time these rocket models were used, and it was also the first time Ramat David Airbase and airport were targeted during the ongoing conflict. Israeli media reported that the Israeli military detected the launch of five rocket salvoes from Lebanon totaling about 30 rockets, most of which were intercepted in the Haifa and Nazareth areas.
An Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut last Friday killed at least 37 people, including a senior Hezbollah leader as well as women and children, raising concerns of further escalation.
