Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday that Russia is ramping up drone production by nearly tenfold, aiming to produce approximately 1.4 million drones this year to support its military operations in Ukraine.

Putin stated that around 140,000 drones had already been delivered to the Russian armed forces in 2023, and production is set to accelerate significantly.

“Whoever reacts faster to these demands on the battlefield wins,” Putin remarked during a meeting in St. Petersburg focused on drone development.

Since the start of the war in February 2022, both Russia and Ukraine have increasingly relied on drones for a variety of battlefield purposes, from targeting artillery to attacking energy infrastructure.
