Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on Israeli artillery positions on Wednesday, marking the first strike on Israel since pager explosions in Lebanon wounded thousands of its members.
The blasts, which killed 12 people, including two children, have heightened concerns of a broader Middle East conflict.
Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad confirmed that Tuesday’s pager detonations, allegedly orchestrated by Israel’s Mossad, injured nearly 3,000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon.
Mossad reportedly planted explosives in pagers imported by Hezbollah months before the attack.
In response, Hezbollah vowed retaliation, while Israel’s military declined to comment on the pager blasts. The two sides have been locked in cross-border fighting since the Gaza conflict erupted last October, raising fears of escalating tensions that could draw in the US and Iran.
