An Iraqi security source reported that two army officers were killed and several soldiers injured in an attack by the terrorist group ISIS on a military patrol in the northwestern part of Kirkuk province.

Speaking to Shafaq News, the source detailed that the attackers targeted a military vehicle on the outskirts of the Dibs district, approximately 65 kilometers northwest of Kirkuk, resulting in deaths and injuries.

The source confirmed that the Iraqi Army responded to the attackers and that additional military forces reached the incident site, secured the area, and transported the bodies of the deceased and the wounded.

A sweeping operation has commenced in search of the attackers.

The resurgence of ISIS attacks in regions like Kirkuk underscores ongoing security challenges in Iraq.

Despite the territorial defeat of ISIS in Iraq declared in 2017, sleeper cells continue to operate, targeting military and civilian entities.

These attacks not only destabilize the region but also complicate efforts for reconstruction and reconciliation among Iraq’s diverse ethnic and sectarian groups.

The Iraqi government and international partners remain vigilant and are continuously working to counter the lingering threats posed by such terrorist activities.

The Directorate of Investigations and Preventive Security at the General Directorate of Security and Discipline of the Popular Mobilization Forces announced the arrest of one of the most dangerous ISIS leaders in Ninewa province, Iraq.

The Popular Mobilization Forces stated in a press release, “In a new qualitative achievement, a force from the Directorate of Investigations and Preventive Security at the General Directorate of Security and Discipline of the Popular Mobilization Forces managed to capture one of the most dangerous remnants of the terrorist ISIS leaders in Ninewa province.”
