Negotiations between Israel and Hamas over a Gaza ceasefire are affecting relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv, particularly over the Philadelphi Corridor issue.
Media reports suggest that this has delayed the appointment of a new Israeli ambassador to Egypt.
According to Israeli channel “i24NEWS,” the delay in appointing Israeli ambassador Orit Rothman is due to Egypt’s “deliberate postponement.” Former ambassador Amira Oron returned to Israel two weeks ago, but the new ambassador has not yet received Egypt’s approval.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reportedly has little interest in meeting senior Israeli diplomats at the moment, and the appointment process remains frozen.
The Israeli outlet “Yedioth Ahronoth” reported that Israel plans to push the US to apply more pressure on Egypt, which has rejected any Israeli presence along the Philadelphi Corridor, further complicating the diplomatic situation.
