Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and for Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, welcomed Hussein Awad, Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, for a discussion session held at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Qasr al-Tahrir.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that the meeting included a review of Egypt’s participation in the Geneva meetings and its assessment of its actions and efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Both parties were keen to discuss Sudan-specific items during the upcoming Arab League meeting scheduled for September 10.
Abu Zeid added that Dr. Abdelatty was eager to hear his Sudanese counterpart’s assessment of various international and regional efforts to find a solution to the crisis. The ministers discussed several topics related to bilateral relations. The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized Egypt’s commitment to facilitating the conditions of Sudanese nationals residing in Egypt until the crisis ends and their safe return to their homeland, which was appreciated by his Sudanese counterpart.
For his part, Mr. Hussein Awad emphasized the depth of the bilateral relations, expressing his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts both on humanitarian and relief levels, and in creating conditions conducive to resolving the current crisis.
