US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed on Friday that President Joe Biden will announce a new security aid package for Ukraine valued at $250 million.

During a speech at Ramstein Air Base in western Germany, where international supporters of Ukraine gathered, Austin stated that the U.S. President will also bolster all forms of support to ensure Ukraine meets its needs.

“If Ukraine is not free, the world will not be safe,” Austin declared, according to BBC coverage.

Austin highlighted the ongoing commitment of the United States, its partners, and allies to support Ukraine at every step toward achieving its sovereignty.

He emphasized the importance of the Contact Group’s unity in continuing efforts to strengthen support for Ukraine in countering Russian military operations.

He noted that in July, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and the US announced additional deliveries of Patriot air defense systems and other equipment to Ukraine.

Italy has committed to providing another air defense system, the SAMP/T, while Germany recently supplied the IRIS-T air defense system and additional munitions.

Berlin, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen have also contributed more tanks.

Since the last Contact Group meeting in June, the US has pledged over $4 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

Austin pointed out that the group has recently focused on addressing Ukraine’s critical needs, including air defense systems, weapons, and equipment.

He also expressed gratitude for the coalition’s efforts, which have resulted in Ukraine receiving its first batch of F-16 fighter jets.

Austin underscored that to maintain its security, Ukraine must continue to enhance its defense production capabilities.

The UK government also announced plans to provide Ukraine with 650 lightweight, multi-role missiles valued at £162 million ($213.13 million) to bolster its defense against Russian drones and airstrikes.

The aid package, revealed on Friday, comes as Ukraine continues to face intensified aerial attacks from Russia.
