The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed on Thursday that at least one person was killed following an attack by Israeli settlers on a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank.
According to the “Times of Israel,” an Israeli security official reported that approximately 50 masked settlers stormed the Palestinian village of Jit and set fire to at least four homes. The German news agency, dpa, also covered the incident.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the victim as a 22-year-old Palestinian who was shot in the chest during the attack.
Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated that the army is investigating the incident and noted that an Israeli settler has been detained.
Hagari condemned the attack, emphasizing that it disrupts security and law enforcement efforts and diverts the army from its primary mission of countering terrorism and protecting civilians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has stated that the attack is being taken seriously.
The statement assured that those responsible for any criminal actions would be apprehended and brought to justice.
The West Bank has been a flashpoint of tension between Israeli settlers and Palestinians, with sporadic violence and clashes occurring regularly.
