The US Department of Defense’s Office of the Inspector General reported on Thursday that the U.S. Congress has approved over $174 billion in funds for Ukraine and the reinforcement of NATO in Europe since February 2022.

According to the report, these funds represent a significant increase in US financial commitment in response to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

The funds allocated include direct security, budgetary provisions, development, and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, alongside security assistance for NATO allies and other partner nations.

The allocation also supports the bolstered American military presence and activities in Europe.

The report highlights that Ukraine continues to adhere to its obligations concerning the use of American weapons, focusing on compliance and operational integrity within Russian territories.

Despite ongoing challenges, the Ukrainian armed forces remain undersupplied with essential weaponry and ammunition, particularly in artillery, air defense, and long-range weapons, struggling to counteract Russian dominance in land and air warfare.

Further, the report indicates a shortage in the production of certain types of artillery ammunition requested by Ukraine, with production levels reduced to critically low levels, making it nearly impossible to meet the Ukrainian armed forces’ needs adequately.

Russia has consistently warned that the continual Western arms deliveries to Ukraine only prolong the conflict without altering the outcome.

The U.S. continues to navigate complex diplomatic and military dynamics as it supports Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
