Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf emphasized the need to harness all of Libya’s resources and capabilities to expedite the success of the political process aimed at unifying Libyan institutions through free, transparent, and fair elections.
This statement was made during a meeting on Sunday at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Foreign Minister Attaf received the Libyan Ambassador to Algeria, Saleh Hemma Mohammed Bekda.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the latest developments on the Libyan scene. Attaf reiterated Algeria’s position, urging the Libyan brothers to exercise wisdom, self-restraint, and prioritize the vital interests of the Libyan people.
The Algerian Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of collective efforts to preserve the most significant achievement of the UN-led political process, which is the ceasefire between the conflicting Libyan factions. He stressed the necessity of valuing, reinforcing, and building on this achievement to advance towards the desired peaceful resolution, ensuring the security and stability of both Libya and its regional neighbors.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Algerian Foreign Minister stated that the critical and decisive nature of these elections requires all parties to respect the results of the ballot box to prevent the prolongation of the crisis in Libya.
