Egyptian police have arrested Ahmed Fattouh, the left-back for Zamalek SC and the Egyptian national football team, following a car accident on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road. The incident, which occurred early Sunday morning, resulted in the death of a police officer whom Fattouh struck with his car.

According to Egyptian media reports, Zamalek’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Sobhi, was with Fattouh in the car as they were returning from the North Coast before the tragic accident occurred.

Local sources indicate that the Ministry of Health was notified, and the officer’s body was transported to the nearest hospital, where it will remain under the authority of the public prosecution.

Sobhi has since been released from police custody, as he is not involved in the ongoing investigation, while Fattouh remains detained.

Further investigations revealed that Fattouh tested positive for cannabis following the accident. This has raised suspicions that he might have been under the influence of drugs while driving. Although these claims have not yet been officially confirmed, the presence of cannabinoids in his blood has added a significant layer of complexity to the case. Fattouh remains in custody, while Sobhi, who was not driving, has been released.
