A drone strike near the Iraqi border in eastern Syria resulted in the deaths of five individuals, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights unable to identify the drone’s origin.
The strike targeted a military vehicle, killing five Iran-affiliated fighters and injuring others, some critically.
The attack occurred in a region of eastern Syria that is a significant area of influence for Iran and its affiliated groups, including Iraqi factions.
This border area has previously been targeted by airstrikes against trucks carrying weapons and munitions, as well as military sites belonging to these groups.
Some of these attacks have been claimed by the United States, while others have been attributed to Israel.
In June, a similar drone strike in the region killed three Iranian-affiliated militants. Since the conflict began in 2011, the Israeli military has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in Syria, targeting regime sites, Iranian positions, and Hezbollah targets.
While Israel rarely confirms these strikes, it frequently states its commitment to countering what it describes as attempts by Iran to establish a military presence in Syria.
The US-led coalition has also repeatedly stated its role in conducting strikes against Iranian-affiliated fighters.
