Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Palestinian Delegate to the United Nations, has called on the International Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in halting the brutal Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.
In a statement to Al Arabiya Al Hadath news channel on Sunday, Mansour announced that “the Security Council will hold an open emergency session next Tuesday to discuss the Israeli attack on the Tabi’een School in Gaza,” emphasizing the need for the council to condemn this savage attack and to hold the responsible Israeli officials accountable. The attack resulted in the deaths of nearly one hundred Palestinians.
Mansour also highlighted the necessity to address the Israeli crimes committed against Palestinian prisoners and their mistreatment, according to reports from Israeli civil society organizations.
Yesterday, Saturday, the Israeli occupation bombed the “Tabi’een” school, which shelters displaced individuals in Gaza City’s Al-Daraj neighborhood, resulting in the death of over 100 citizens and injuring dozens more.
On Wednesday, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the war crimes and genocide committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
During the opening session of the extraordinary open-membership meeting of the Executive Committee at the ministerial level of the member states, aimed at addressing the ongoing crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and its assaults on Iranian sovereignty, OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha delivered a speech.
This session was attended by Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Gambia and chairman of the fifteenth session of the Islamic Summit Conference, along with foreign ministers and delegation heads of the member states.
Taha strongly condemned the daily war crimes and genocide committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The latest of these crimes was the heinous assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, former Palestinian Prime Minister and head of Hamas’s political bureau, during his stay in Iran.
According to the OIC’s official website, Taha urged the Security Council to take necessary measures to compel Israel, the occupying power, to respect international law and to immediately and comprehensively cease its ongoing aggression in Gaza, thereby preventing the potential escalation into a full regional war that could destabilize the entire Middle East.
Taha also emphasized the need for collective efforts to enforce Israel’s compliance with international legitimacy resolutions and the recent ruling by the International Court of Justice regarding the illegality of the Israeli occupation, holding it accountable under international criminal law for its crimes.
Furthermore, Taha condemned all unlawful Israeli actions, including resolutions rejecting the establishment of the Palestinian state and labeling UNRWA as a terrorist organization.
He called for increased political and financial support for UNRWA to enable it to continue its vital role in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees and alleviating the humanitarian suffering faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza.
