The Arab Republic of Egypt has emphasized the necessity of formulating an agreement to cease the ongoing war in Gaza, urging an Israeli military withdrawal from the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.

A high-level Egyptian source disclosed that a quadrilateral meeting involving Egyptian, American, Qatari officials, and the head of Israeli intelligence is scheduled to take place in Rome this coming Sunday to negotiate a truce in Gaza.

The discussions in Rome are part of continuous mediation efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire in Gaza, with the Egyptian security delegation participating alongside representatives from Qatar, the USA, and Israel.

Egypt has reiterated its commitment to reaching an immediate ceasefire agreement, ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, facilitating the movement of Gazan citizens, and advocating for a complete withdrawal from the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing.

Egypt’s role as a mediator in the Israel-Palestine conflict is longstanding and critical, given its geographic proximity and political relationships. Egypt, alongside other regional powers like Qatar and with international involvement from the United States, is pushing for a sustainable ceasefire that includes humanitarian aid provisions and a restructuring of the security measures at key points like the Rafah crossing. This effort comes amidst a complex backdrop of regional alliances and the geopolitical interests of the involved parties, including recent reconciliations within the Gulf States that have repositioned Egypt’s diplomatic engagements.
