The Military Intelligence Directorate of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Friday the arrest of nine terrorists across four provinces.
According to a statement obtained by RT, the arrests were the result of separate operations in Baghdad, Anbar, Kirkuk, and Nineveh, based on precise intelligence provided by the intelligence units of the 7th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th divisions in cooperation with ground forces.
The operations involved tightly coordinated ambushes and raids on locations used by the terrorists, leading to the capture of individuals wanted by the Iraqi judiciary under the provisions of Article Four of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
The Directorate noted that these individuals were associated with various ranks within ISIS.
The detainees have been handed over to the relevant authorities in accordance with proper legal and procedural standards.
In the early hours of Friday, security sources reported that four Katyusha rockets were fired at the Ain Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq, which hosts US-led coalition forces.
According to the sources, two rockets landed inside the base, while the other two fell in its vicinity. It remains unclear whether there were any casualties or damage resulting from the attack.
This incident follows two days after a military summit in Washington, where Iraqi and American officials discussed the termination of the coalition’s operations in Iraq.
Alsumaria News, citing a security source, reported on Thursday evening that two rockets targeted the vicinity of Ain Al-Asad Airbase in Anbar province. The source stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the launch site, without providing further details.
On July 17, two Iraqi military sources confirmed that two drones targeted Ain Al-Asad Airbase, which houses US and international forces in western Iraq. The July 17 attack was the first on US forces in the country since early February 2024.
