Libya’s Illegal Immigration Control Authority has reported the deportation of 2,102 Sudanese and Chadian migrants from Kufra in the first half of this year.

According to official figures released today, 985 Sudanese migrants were deported from Kufra between January 1 and June 30.

Nearly half of these deportees, 514 individuals, were suffering from various epidemics. Notably, 77% of the Sudanese deportations, totaling 763 individuals, occurred in May and June alone.

Additionally, 1,117 Chadian migrants were expelled from Kufra during the same period. Among them, 367 were deported in May and June, with 240 also afflicted by epidemic diseases.

Earlier this month, Sudan Tribune reported that approximately 1,200 Sudanese refugees, including a significant number of women and children, are fleeing to Libya daily as of July, compared to the situation in December 2023.

The publication has warned of a potential humanitarian crisis in Kufra if urgent humanitarian aid to Sudanese refugees, estimated to exceed 45,000, is not provided.

The ongoing situation highlights the critical need for international support to address the growing refugee crisis and prevent further deterioration of living conditions in the region.
