Natural disaster expert Dr. Badawi Rahban has issued a grim warning, suggesting that the city of Alexandria, Egypt, may be at risk of submersion due to the impacts of climate change.

Rahban, previously the Director of Natural Disaster Mitigation at UNESCO and a recognized authority on climate change, emphasizes the urgency of the situation for Egypt as the nation contends with the climate crisis and rising sea levels.

During a phone interview with journalist Amr Adeeb on the show ‘Al Hekaya’ on MBC Egypt, Rahban warned that these rising water levels on the coastlines pose a significant threat to the historic city of Alexandria, possibly leading to its complete submergence.

The eminent climate expert also stressed that this alarming situation extends beyond Egypt’s boundaries. He mentioned that various cities in China are similarly threatened by rising sea levels due to climatic changes. As global warming accelerates, the risk for these coastal cities becomes increasingly dire, highlighting the need for immediate and effective action against the climate crisis.

The Mediterranean’s eastern countries may also be on the front line of this climatic shift. Dr. Rahban highlighted the potential for these countries to experience powerful hurricanes in the near future due to the ongoing climate changes.

These stark revelations underscore the urgent need for global attention and action on climate change. As the warnings from experts like Dr. Rahban become increasingly dire, it’s clear that cities like Alexandria and many others worldwide face serious threats from the rising sea levels, making climate change a crisis that can no longer be ignored.

Not only is the very existence of these historic and populated regions at risk, but so too are the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. The crisis calls for immediate, global cooperation and decisive action towards effective and sustainable solutions.
