The Italian military radar website, ItaMilRadar, reported a US Navy Triton MQ-4C drone conducting surveillance over Libyan shores near the cities of Al-Khums, Tripoli, and Zuwara.

According to the website, the drone, bearing the call sign BLACKCAT5, embarked on a significant reconnaissance mission in the central Mediterranean.

It focused primarily on the waters off the west coast of Libya, launching from the Sigonella Naval Air Station on the island of Sicily.

The reconnaissance mission covered the coastal areas near Khoms, Tripoli, and Zuwara, highlighting ongoing US surveillance operations in the region.

The website noted that the drone’s flight path included the coastal region in western Libya and the area between Malta and the Italian island of Sicily.

The purpose of the US drone’s activities remains unclear, but such operations are generally linked to maritime security monitoring and intelligence gathering in the Mediterranean.
