Syrian Air has announced the resumption of regular flights between Damascus and Riyadh, starting from Wednesday, July 10. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Hatem Kabass, the Director General of the aviation company, stated that a regular flight will operate from Damascus International Airport to Riyadh Airport, with one flight scheduled every Wednesday.
Kabass also mentioned that the number of flights will increase once suitable timings are secured for Syrian Air.
Flight operations between Syria and Saudi Arabia have faced numerous disruptions over the past decade due to the Syrian civil war and resulting geopolitical tensions. Before the conflict, regular flights between Damascus and Riyadh were a common feature, facilitating not just passenger travel but also business and cultural exchanges. The suspension of flights was a direct consequence of the deteriorating diplomatic relations and security concerns in the region.
Aviation experts see this move as a positive step for the regional aviation sector. Resuming regular flights can help Syrian Air restore its operations and profitability after years of sanctions and operational challenges. It also reflects a broader trend of recovery and growth in Middle Eastern aviation, where airlines are expanding routes and increasing frequencies to meet rising demand.
