Beirut remains among the worst cities globally for quality of life. Despite slight improvements in cost of living, purchasing power, and residential rents, Beirut failed to improve in key areas like safety, pollution, and healthcare.

The city ranked 171 out of 178 cities worldwide in a mid-2024 international survey by Numbeo, scoring 73.3 points.

Cairo led Beirut among Arab cities with 75.9 points, while Gulf cities topped the Arab rankings.

To improve global rankings, cities must excel in purchasing power, safety, healthcare, and climate while keeping living costs, housing affordability, traffic, and pollution low.
