The Independent National Electoral Commission of Mauritania affirmed today (Saturday) its unconditional readiness to meet the demands of all candidates within its jurisdiction, provided they do not contravene explicit legal provisions that the commission lacks the authority to change or interpret.

This statement was issued by the commission, as reported by the Mauritanian News Agency, in response to media coverage of a complaint letter addressed to the president of the Independent National Electoral Commission. The letter was signed by representatives of five candidates for the 2024 presidential elections, concerning a request to audit the electoral register.

The commission emphasized that requests for audits have not been met with refusal or delay, but rather it has repeatedly expressed readiness to bear the financial costs for any local or foreign entity willing to conduct an audit aimed at improving performance and correcting any errors or deficiencies that may exist.
