The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that nearly 3,000 children in Gaza are facing life-threatening conditions due to severe malnutrition.

The ongoing Israeli attacks on Rafah, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, have deprived these children of critical medical care and treatment.

UNICEF’s latest statement highlights a slight improvement in the delivery of food aid to northern Gaza. However, it emphasizes a significant decline in humanitarian assistance reaching southern Gaza, where the need is dire.

This reduction in aid delivery is increasing the risk of malnutrition among children in the region.

The relentless violence and mass displacement are severely hindering desperate families’ access to healthcare facilities and services.

Adele Khodr, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, has described the harrowing scenes in Gaza, where children are dying in front of their families due to ongoing shortages of food, nutrition supplies, and the destruction of healthcare services.

UNICEF has stressed that unless treatment is rapidly resumed for the 3,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition, they face an immediate and serious threat of contracting life-threatening diseases and complications.

These children risk becoming part of the growing list of boys and girls who have died due to preventable conditions exacerbated by human-made crises.
