Syrian Tourism Minister Mohammed Rami Martini told a correspondent from Novosti that two hotel complexes, constructed by Russian businessmen, will soon commence operations on the Syrian coast.

The minister added, “We have investment contracts with the Russian side. One of these contracts is with the Olympic Tour Company in the Latakia Governorate, northwest Syria. This company is one of the most important investors in the tourism sector in Syria, as it is already completing the construction of the project, of which more than 50% has been completed.”

According to him, this project will increase the number of hotel rooms and restaurant seats necessary to accommodate the growing number of tourists.

The Syrian minister pointed out that the “Olympic Tour” company will organize trips to this complex for Russian tourists.

Another Russian company, Sinara-int, has secured a new contract with preferential conditions from the Latakia City Council under the auspices of the Syrian Ministry of Tourism… The minister said, “We hope that work on this project will begin in the coming months, and we hope that it will be completed quickly so that it can be operational as soon as possible.”

Martini announced in April 2019 that Syria is seeking to attract Russian tourists in two directions: first, religious tourism for Russian citizens interested in Christian shrines such as the village of Maaloula, whose inhabitants still speak the language of Christ, and the ancient monastery of Sednaya. Also in the cities of Aleppo and Damascus.

The second direction Martini referred to is the development of resort infrastructure on the Syrian coast to attract Russian citizens for leisure.
