Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly has submitted the resignation of the government to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
A statement from the presidency announced that President Sisi has tasked Madbouly with forming a new government consisting of competent and experienced individuals.
Article 146 of the constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic shall task a new government “if the current government resigns,” subject to its presentation to the House of Representatives for approval.
Article 146 of the Egyptian constitution also states that “the President of the Republic shall task the Prime Minister with forming the government and presenting its program to the House of Representatives. If his government does not obtain the confidence of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives within thirty days at most, the President of the Republic shall task the Prime Minister with nominating someone from the party or coalition holding the majority of seats in the House of Representatives. If his government does not obtain the confidence of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives within thirty days, the House shall be dissolved, and the President of the Republic shall call for the election of a new House of Representatives within sixty days from the date of the dissolution decision.”
