On Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the latest signal of ongoing diplomatic discourse between the two nations.

Ahmed Fahmi, the Official Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that the call aimed to explore opportunities to fortify the already robust bilateral relations between Egypt and Germany in all areas. There was a mutual expression of satisfaction regarding the level of joint collaboration and a shared commitment to deepening cooperation frameworks, specifically in the economic, trade, technology transfer, and joint manufacturing realms.

Fahmi highlighted the role of German companies in the significant projects currently being implemented in Egypt, illustrating the key contributions they make to the nation’s progress.

In addition to discussing bilateral ties, El-Sisi and Scholz also discussed several regional and international issues of common interest to both countries and agreed to continue consultation and coordination in the upcoming period.

According to statements from the German ambassador to Cairo, Frank Hartmann, Germany is currently Egypt’s second-largest trading partner in Europe, with a total volume of about 5.5 billion euros in bilateral trade recorded in 2022.

This exchange underscores the significance of maintaining diplomatic dialogue in strengthening international relations and navigating shared challenges. It also sets a hopeful stage for future collaboration between Egypt and Germany across a multitude of sectors.

Egypt and Germany have a long history of diplomatic relations that spans several decades. Over the years, the countries have developed strong political, economic, and cultural ties.

Germany is one of Egypt’s largest trading partners, with a large portion of Egyptian exports, notably agricultural products, textiles, and oil, being shipped to Germany. Conversely, Germany exports a diverse range of goods to Egypt, including vehicles, machinery, chemical products, and electrical appliances.

Moreover, the two countries have a robust track record of cooperation in various sectors. German companies have a significant presence in Egypt and are involved in multiple key projects, particularly in sectors like renewable energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure development.
