Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah met with the Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohammad Younes Menfi, at the Cabinet Office to discuss several political and economic issues.

According to the media office of the Prime Minister, the meeting focused on the international efforts to hold elections under fair and consensual laws, emphasizing the importance of unifying local efforts to end Libya’s transitional phases.

During their meeting, Dbeibah and Menfi also reviewed government spending for the year 2024, underscoring the necessity of improving citizens’ living conditions and continuing with development projects and support for local development.

The two leaders agreed on the crucial need to bolster the Libyan Presidential Council’s efforts to succeed in the national reconciliation process, which they regard as fundamental to achieving stability in the African nation.

In her first media appearance since assuming the acting leadership of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs, reaffirmed the mission’s dedication to assisting Libyans in avoiding the perils of division, violence, and resource waste.

Under the Libyans’ direction, including women, youth, and various community groups, Khoury emphasized the mission’s ongoing efforts to facilitate a comprehensive political process owned and led by the Libyans.

Following the resignation of the previous Special Representative, Abdullah Batelli, and pending the appointment of a new Special Representative, Khoury stated, “UNSMIL is also committed to supporting the conduct of inclusive, free, and fair national elections to restore legitimacy to Libyan institutions.”

The official called on everyone to work towards the unity, sovereignty, stability, and prosperity of Libya, suggesting that the time has come to put an end to their suffering.
