The Lebanese army reported on Tuesday that a truck carrying smuggled weapons caught fire in the Batroun area of Northern Governorate. The truck had arrived via a ship at the Port of Tripoli.

The army’s statement revealed that the truck was initially reported to be carrying oils but was later found to be concealing 304 smuggled pistols hidden above the engine. Several suspects involved in the smuggling operation have been arrested.

The statement also mentioned that the army inspected other trucks that had arrived on the same ship but found no weapons or contraband inside them.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported on Monday, citing a senior judicial source, that Lebanese security forces had seized a truck from Turkey containing 500 pistols. The truck was linked to a resident of the Mieh Mieh refugee camp for Palestinians in southern Lebanon.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that “security forces seized a transport truck in the Batroun area (north) containing 500 Retay model pistols.” The truck had arrived in Lebanon on a ship from Turkey.
