The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on leaders of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, as fierce battles continue in El Fasher, West Sudan.

According to the Treasury Department, these RSF leaders have expanded to new fronts and fought for control over more territory while the Sudanese people seek an end to the conflict.

The US remains committed to using sanctions to support the peace process and address those perpetuating the conflict.

The sanctioned leaders include Ali Yaqoub Jibril and Osman Mohamed Hamid Mohamed, accused of leading the RSF’s military campaigns. Ali Yaqoub Jibril, the RSF commander in Central Darfur, has been a key figure in RSF operations in Darfur, including recent attacks in North Darfur.

Jibril currently commands RSF forces around El Fasher, the last major area under Sudanese Armed Forces control in Darfur.

Osman Mohamed Hamid Mohamed, who leads an RSF brigade and serves as the group’s chief operations officer, has made statements following significant RSF victories and plays a crucial role in their operational planning.

These sanctions highlight the US commitment to stopping the escalation of violence and supporting a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan.

As the situation in Sudan remains volatile, the US continues to push for diplomatic solutions and accountability for those involved in the ongoing violence.

These sanctions are part of broader international efforts to bring stability to Sudan, where ongoing conflicts have led to significant humanitarian crises and displacement. The US and its allies are urging all parties to cease hostilities and engage in meaningful dialogue to achieve lasting peace.
