Saudi Arabia & Iran Discuss Bilateral Relations

Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, met in Cape Town, South Africa, before the Saudi Foreign Minister’s visit to Tehran at the invitation of the Iranian Foreign Minister, where the two sides held joint talks.

During this visit, which marked the first official visit by a Saudi Foreign Minister to Tehran after the resumption of official relations between the two countries, Faisal bin Farhan affirmed his country’s determination to develop relations with Iran and open a new chapter in the bilateral relations. He also met with Iranian President Ayatollah Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.

The Foreign Ministers exchanged congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and emphasized the unity of the Islamic nation. They also stressed the necessity of unity and the well-being and happiness of Muslims worldwide.

Following the agreement to resume diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Foreign Ministers met in Beijing and issued a joint statement. During this period, there were also telephone consultations between the two ministers. Subsequently, technical delegations were exchanged to review the process of reopening diplomatic premises between the two sides. Recently, the Iranian diplomatic headquarters in Saudi Arabia were reopened, and according to Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Saudi embassy and consulate general in Tehran will soon resume their operations.
