A UNICEF vehicle, stationed in northern Gaza awaiting entry, was targeted by live ammunition, as reported through a statement on social media.
“Yesterday, a UNICEF vehicle waiting to enter the north of Gaza was hit by live ammunition. The incident has been raised with the relevant Israeli authorities. Sadly, humanitarians continue to face risks in delivering life-saving aid,” UNICEF Middle East and North Africa said.
Tensions escalated in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, when militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas initiated a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, resulting in casualties among border residents and the abduction of over 240 individuals.
Hamas justified its actions as a response to Israeli authorities’ perceived aggression toward the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City.
In response, Israel imposed a comprehensive blockade on Gaza and launched airstrikes on targets within the Strip, as well as specific areas in Lebanon and Syria. Concurrent clashes occurred in the West Bank.
