The Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Cindy McCain, announced that the United Nations agency has gathered enough food to sustain 1.1 million people for three months within the Gaza Strip.

McCain stated in exclusive remarks to the American network CNN on Sunday that all they need is access to Gaza, emphasizing the importance of the crossings leading to the territory and the necessity to open more crossings.

She explained that as humanitarian workers, they must be able to adhere to their humanitarian principles and deliver aid in this manner.

She emphasized that it’s much more than just getting food in; it’s about the type of food they provide while ensuring that they can bring in food for adults, but more importantly, foods specifically designated for young children who are already in desperate need of nutrients at this time.

The Gaza Strip, a densely populated Palestinian territory bordered by Egypt and Israel, has been under a blockade since 2007, severely restricting the movement of people and goods.

The blockade has led to a dire humanitarian situation, with high levels of poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity.

The World Food Programme plays a crucial role in providing food assistance to vulnerable populations in Gaza, especially during times of crisis and conflict.

Access to Gaza remains a significant challenge due to restrictions imposed by Israel and Egypt, impacting the delivery of humanitarian aid and exacerbating the suffering of the civilian population.
