In response to reported threats against Muslim communities, police forces across Norway have been armed since Saturday afternoon. The decision comes after concerns were raised about the safety of Muslim, prompting continuous coordination between the police and the Police Security Service (PST) regarding the threat assessment.

Oslo police’s action manager, Øyvind Hammervold, informed VG newspaper that they received reports on Saturday morning regarding threats directed towards Muslim faiths in Oslo. Efforts are underway to identify the individuals responsible for these threats.

“The directive to carry firearms is effective immediately and remains in force for the time being,” stated the police leader.

Typically, police in Oslo are not armed, making this move notable in response to the perceived threat.

This action follows similar threats made towards churches and Christian congregations leading up to Easter, prompting warnings from PST regarding an elevated risk of terrorist activity.

The Oslo police district released a statement to the media confirming ongoing investigations into reports of threats circulating on social media platforms. The authorities are actively probing these reports to ensure the safety and security of all communities affected.
