The Saudi authorities announced on Sunday that they had foiled an attempt to smuggle over one million Captagon pills at Duba Port, concealed within a melon shipment.

The smuggling operation involved hiding the pills inside the fruit cavities before repackaging, with the recipients of the seized shipment within the Kingdom being apprehended.

Hamoud Al-Harbi, the spokesperson for the Saudi Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority, stated, “The recipients of the seized items within the Kingdom have been arrested, and we stand vigilant against them, no matter how varied their smuggling methods are,” as reported by the Saudi news channel Al-Ekhbariya on its official account on the platform formerly known as Twitter, now “X”.

He added, “We have a strategy that focuses on intercepting any smuggling attempts and enhancing security to protect our society from the perpetrators of these attempts.”

Al-Harbi also mentioned that the smuggling attempt was thwarted within the Kingdom through cooperation with the General Directorate for Narcotics Control.

Hamoud Al-Harbi affirmed, “We are continuing to tighten customs control on the Kingdom’s imports and exports to ensure the security of the society and protect it from such scourges.”
