The Houthi movement has condemned the latest series of airstrikes by the United States and Britain on Yemen, labeling them as “failures.”
Over the past week, the allied forces have launched 13 airstrikes against targets in Yemen, which have been criticized by the Houthi leadership for their ineffectiveness.
Abdulmalik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi group, in a televised speech published by the Saba News Agency, remarked on the “American-British aggression” that executed 13 aerial and naval bombardments on Yemen this week.
Al-Houthi dismissed these attacks as unsuccessful, echoing his previous criticisms of foreign military interventions in Yemen.
According to Al-Houthi, these strikes “cannot diminish the capabilities of the Yemeni armed forces (aligned with the Houthis) nor influence the Yemeni decision to support the Palestinian people.”
He argued that such aggression would inadvertently aid in the development of Yemen’s military capacities rather than weaken them.
The Houthi leader also highlighted the ongoing pressure on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, accusing the adversaries of denying the Yemeni people access to aid previously facilitated by the United Nations.
“Despite the hostile acts by the Americans, the British, and their agents (not specified), our people persist and remain unaffected in their stance,” he stated.
In solidarity with Gaza, which has been facing a devastating Israeli war since October 7, 2023, the Houthis have targeted Israeli or Israel-associated cargo ships with rockets and drones in the Red and Arabian Seas.
Following the escalation of tensions in January, with Washington and London engaging in a coalition that conducts strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, the Houthi group announced it would treat all American and British vessels as military targets.
The group recently declared its intention to extend its strikes to include enemy-affiliated ships passing through the Indian Ocean via the Cape of Good Hope route.
This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where international interventions have often led to complex and dynamic military engagements.
As the situation continues to evolve, the international community watches closely, concerned about the potential for further escalation and its implications for regional stability.
