A senior Hamas official revealed on Wednesday that Israel has provided a negative response to the latest ceasefire proposal for Gaza, delivered through intermediaries.
During a press conference held in Beirut, Osama Hamdan, a prominent figure within Hamas, stated that the mediators had conveyed Israel’s response to the proposed ceasefire.
Hamdan described the Israeli position as generally negative, asserting that it failed to address the demands put forward by Hamas. He further claimed that Israel had rescinded previously agreed-upon terms discussed with the mediators.
Hamdan placed the blame for the failure to negotiate a hostage release and halt the violence in Gaza squarely on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.
Negotiations for a ceasefire have resumed this week in Qatar. However, despite weeks of discussions, an agreement between Israel and Hamas has yet to materialize.
The United States is hopeful that such an agreement could alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
