Canada officially announces its intention to resume funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) despite ongoing investigations into allegations of involvement by some agency employees in terrorism.

Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Development, stated on Friday that Canada decided to resume financial contributions to the relief organization due to the “disastrous humanitarian situation in Gaza.”

He noted the recognition of UNRWA’s efforts to address allegations against some of its employees and implement measures to enhance oversight and accountability. Canada will continue to closely collaborate with the relief organization and the United Nations to implement reforms.

Canada, along with other donor countries such as Germany and the United States, had frozen its funding for UNRWA following accusations by Israel of some agency members’ involvement in the attack launched by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7th last year.
