The U.S. Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, and the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy, Jeremy Bernt, met with the Head of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, in the capital Tripoli.

The U.S. Envoy described the meeting as positive and it came at a time when Libyan leaders are faced with the need to address serious budgetary and financial issues.

Norland stated that the meeting discussed the importance of the participation of all Libyan actors in the political process facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in a constructive manner to remove the remaining obstacles to the elections, including the formation of a caretaker government.

He added that the United States also supports Libyan efforts to unify security institutions, maintain Libya’s sovereignty, and reach a national consensus on transparent and sustainable economic and budgetary policies.
