Russia has issued a warning of potential military and technical measures in response to Sweden’s NATO membership, a move Moscow has labeled as hostile and misguided.
This statement comes after Hungary’s parliament cleared the final hurdle for Sweden’s NATO accession on Monday, amid growing concerns over the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the largest in Europe since World War II.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia would closely monitor Sweden’s actions within the “hostile military bloc” and respond accordingly with retaliatory steps of a military and technical nature, among other measures.
Zakharova criticized Sweden’s move to join NATO as escalating tensions and fostering militarism.
The Russian embassy in Stockholm also hinted at unspecified military and technical countermeasures based on the scope and size of NATO forces and equipment to be deployed in Sweden, as mentioned in their Telegram account on Tuesday.
