Firefighters in the state of Texas are battling numerous rapidly spreading wildfires. On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in 60 counties to ensure the swift deployment of critical fire response resources in areas of the Texas Panhandle affected by the devastating wildfires.
The fires in the northern part of the state threaten populated areas, necessitating evacuations.
“Texans are urged to minimize activities that could generate sparks and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and that of their loved ones,” said Abbott.
Strong winds are fanning the flames, and Abbott anticipates that weather conditions in the region will not improve in the coming days, potentially making the wildfires larger and more dangerous.
According to media reports, a fast-moving fire has destroyed over 780 square kilometers of land within 24 hours.
