Israeli cabinet agreed to send a delegation to Qatar to continue talks aimed at securing a ceasefire in the war on Gaza and the return of captives being held by Hamas, according to officials and local media.
The talks began in Paris, where the head of Israel’s overseas intelligence service Mossad, and his counterpart at the domestic Shin Bet security service met with mediators from the US, Egypt, and Qatar.
In a televised interview, the national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said “delegation has returned from Paris — there is probably room to move towards an agreement”.
Hanegbi added that the negotiators had asked to speak to the cabinet “to bring us up to speed on the results of the Paris summit.”
Meanwhile, Israel’s cabinet will send a delegation to Qatar in the coming days to continue negotiations on a weeks-long truce involving the release of captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
The death toll from the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has escalated to 29,606, with 69,737 others injured since October 7th.
The Gaza Health Ministry announced on Saturday that “the Israeli occupation committed 8 massacres against families in the Gaza Strip, resulting in 92 martyrs and 123 injuries in the last 24 hours.”
The statement further highlighted, “Many victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, with the occupation preventing ambulance and civil defense crews from reaching them.”
The ministry concluded, “The toll of the Israeli aggression has risen to 29,606 martyrs and 69,737 injuries since October 7th.”
